Emissions Information
Emissions Notice
At Boosted Mentality Motorsports, we are committed to delivering high-quality performance parts while complying with all applicable federal and state emissions regulations. Because California enforces the most stringent emissions standards in the United States, it is critical for customers to understand how these rules impact the sale, shipment, and use of aftermarket performance parts.
As a result, Boosted Mentality Motorsports has ceased selling or shipping non-CARB-approved emissions-related performance parts to California. Individual product pages clearly state when a product cannot be sold, shipped, or used in California. If you have questions, please contact us at boostedmentalitymotorsports@gmail.com.
Why CARB Certification Matters
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulates aftermarket automotive parts that may affect a vehicle’s emissions output or engine operation.
- Any aftermarket part that can alter airflow, fueling, exhaust flow, or engine operation may be considered an emissions-related component.
-
This includes, but is not limited to:
- High-performance or high-flow air filters
- Intake systems
- Exhaust components
- Engine performance modifications
-
Any part that modifies or replaces emissions-control equipment
- To be legally sold, shipped, or used on vehicles driven on California public highways, these parts must undergo CARB evaluation and receive an Executive Order (EO).
- Without a CARB EO number, an emissions-related part is not legal for highway use in California, regardless of perceived emissions impact.
For this reason, Boosted Mentality Motorsports cannot sell or ship non-CARB-approved performance parts to California at this time. Until CARB EO certification is obtained, such products are classified as “competition use only” under California law.
Types of Aftermarket Parts Under CARB Regulations
CARB categorizes aftermarket parts into three primary groups:
(1) Replacement Parts
- Aftermarket parts that are functionally equivalent to the original equipment (OE) part.
- These parts do not change emissions output or engine operation.
- Legal for sale and use in California on vehicles driven on or off public highways.
- Example: OE-equivalent replacement components with no performance or airflow changes.
(2) Executive Order (EO) Parts
- Aftermarket parts that CARB has reviewed, tested, and approved.
- These parts are issued an Executive Order (EO) number, authorizing their sale and use on specific vehicles.
- Many performance-oriented components fall into this category, including high-flow air filters, intake systems, and certain exhaust components.
- Without an EO number, these parts cannot be legally sold or used on public roads in California.
- Example: A performance intake or air filter kit that has completed CARB testing and carries a valid EO.
(3) Competition Use Only Parts
- Parts intended exclusively for closed-course competition vehicles.
- Not legal for use on vehicles driven on public roads or highways in California.
- These parts may modify, replace, or interfere with emissions-control systems.
- Boosted Mentality Motorsports clearly labels all competition-use-only products on their respective product pages.
⚠️ Important: Any product without a CARB EO that is considered emissions-related is classified as competition use only in California, regardless of intended use.
Competition Use Only Disclaimer
Products labeled “Competition Use Only” may not be sold, shipped, or used in California on vehicles operated on public roads or highways.
Under California law:
- A “racing vehicle” is defined as a vehicle not used on public highways, operated exclusively in sanctioned competition (Calif. Health & Safety Code §39048).
- Competition vehicles must be transported by trailer or carrier and may not be driven on public roads, even to or from events.
-
Use of competition-only parts on non-competition vehicles:
- May result in state and/or federal fines or penalties
- May void any Boosted Mentality Motorsports warranty
-
May void your vehicle manufacturer’s warranty
It is the customer’s sole responsibility to comply with all applicable emissions laws. Boosted Mentality Motorsports disclaims all liability arising from improper or unlawful use of competition-only products.
